D21 Spring Conference Update: March 28-18

Have you created your path yet? Imagine the possibilities.

With Toastmasters International’s new Pathways educational program having kicked off a week ago in D21, Toastmasters from around the district are intently choosing their paths.

Months ago, when the D21 Spring Conference Committee for 2018 was brainstorming for conference themes, we decided to build upon the excitement and momentum that we anticipated with the new Pathways Program.

While the Pathways Program has multiple paths, we decided to limit our choices to five that we felt encapsulated the best. 

When you register for the conference you will be asked to make a selection from the following five paths:

  • Public Speaking + Interpersonal Communication
  • Interpersonal Communication + Strategic Leadership
  • Interpersonal Communication + Management
  • Public Speaking + Management
  • Public Speaking + Strategic Leadership

Your selection will then be featured on your conference name badge allowing you to recognize your fellow travellers.

Toastmasters conferences are a great place to network … to meet old friends and to make new connections. Be prepared to speak about why you chose your path. Why does it resonate with you? Reach out to your fellow conference attendees and ask them about their path. It can be a great icebreaker.

We’re also asking you to imagine the possibilities. Not just anybody’s possibilities but yours.

Yes, it’s official! Our Club Presidents, Vp Eds (or members of their clubs in good standing who carry their proxies) will gather together with all District, Division and Area Directors for our 2018 Annual District 21 Council Meeting. At this meeting we will:

  • Hear updates on our progress in the District Success Plan
  • Find out how our District is doing financially
  • Vote on important business that affects YOU this coming year … including the incoming District trio and Division Directors!

Toastmasters with Benefits: Reasons to Attend the D21 Conference.

Sure, we can tell you that if you attend a District conference you will be motivated, inspired, challenged and re-energized. We can tell you that, as it is true. Just ask any long-time Toastmaster member that regularly goes to conferences.

That’s what draws them back conference after conference.

In fact, that very reason is what has drawn long-time member Doug Anderson DTM to our conferences. Doug is a Past District 21 Governor, has been our D21 Auditor for many years and has served as the host for many of our conference hospitality suites. D21 is well known for the quality and fun of its hospitality suites, conference after conference.

This spring conference reaches a significant milestone for Doug, in that this will be the 85th conference that he has attended in D21. Yes, you read that right! 85 conferences!

If you are new to Toastmasters and especially the world of Toastmastering outside your club, here is a quick overview.

You will be kept busy from Friday afternoon until Sunday at noon. You will hear seasoned motivational speakers as well as attend thought-provoking educational sessions presented by some of our seasoned Toastmasters. You will have loads of time to interact and network with fellow Toastmasters from around our district. And some from out of the province and our country.

You won’t go hungry. We have gourmet-style meals planned throughout the conference.

Friday evening features a special entertainment activity facilitated by Kelowna Toastmasters. Saturday evening brings an after-dinner party and then a dance.   • 6:20 to 6:30 pm – Parade of Banners
  • 6 to 7 pm – Official Opening of the conference

7×2 ACT/COT Results

In our ACT 2 (second round of club officer training) we trained 622 club officers.  108 of 149 clubs were able to train 4 or more club officers and 25 clubs trained all 7 club officers.  In our summer training ACT 1, we had 34 clubs with all 7 officers trained.  17 clubs were able to train all 7 officers in both sessions resulting in being entitled to the prestigious 7×2 award ribbon.  Congratulations to:
