Rising Tide 10% Growth Challenge – Deadline is April 1st renewals

You LOVE your club. Your members are your trusted friends. You learn, laugh, and sometimes cry together. There is nothing quite like a fellow trusted Toastmaster.

Each year lives change. People move. Their focus shifts. Family needs them in different ways. Life happens. Twice a year, some of your members might make that tough decision to stop learning in your club and focus on other areas of responsibility. While you never joined Toastmasters to promote Toastmasters, if you want your club to continue being that vibrant gathering each week, you need to find more potential fellow learners.

To help you and your team members focus on the FUN factor of reaching out to future friends, we’ve issued a CHALLENGE with prizes that ALL our clubs could potentially win!

Create that Rising Tide that floats all boats.

Grow your club by 10% above your July 1st base as of the April 1st renewals (which we’ll see around April 8th) and your club WILL WIN:

  1. All your members’ names on the VIP Guest List of the Kelowna Spring Conference’s Saturday Night “AfterParty” event (it will be an event to remember!)
  2. A special Party Pack for your team to help you celebrate at the AfterParty event
  3. A Club Care Package to take back home with you. This Care Package will contain a collection of helpful resources and items to help you care for all those brand new members and sustain the growth you’ve achieved, keeping your club that fun, supportive and exciting learning opportunity you LOVE going to each week.

How do you find your July 1st base?

  1. Click on this link to view the District 21 Dashboard:
  2. Scroll down to your Division and Area to find your club. You’ll see all of your DCP points, as well as your July 1st 2017 and your current membership.
  3. You can click on your club’s name to pull up a “one page” that focuses completely on your team. This is great for printing or displaying on a screen at meetings

How do you grow your team?

  • We have a host of resources to offer. Browse this website, our YouTube Channel and the resources at Toastmaster International (and try not to get stuck in overwhelm). Just seize one or two ideas that connect with you and take action! Whatever you do will help create awareness and grow everyone who helps you. It’s never a waste to try different ways to promote your club opportunity to your community you serve.
  • Reach out to your Area Director. He/she is committed to helping your club succeed and is dying for you to ask!
  • Reach out to your Division Director to find out what District resources and events might help you.
  • Conspire with your team through Moments of Truth. Decide how you want your club to function, what areas you could work together to improve and how you want to be perceived by your ideal future members
  • Use your Passport! Visit other clubs and discover ideas you want to try out in your own club. Jot down your “Ah-Ha’s” and get your passport “stickered” or initialed! We’re offering a small appreciation gift for the chance to collect helpful data from your passport at the Spring Conference AND there’s 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes for the most points!
  • Invite a member to chair a memberhip campaign
  • Invite several members to chair PR campaigns with specific focuses.
  • Ask a successful club in our District what they did to grow their membership. Great ideas are everywhere! Toastmasters love to share and help their fellow clubs succeed.

Looking forward to seeing YOU and your team in Kelowna and, if you can’t make Kelowna, hearing how your team chooses to celebrate your success, as well as use that Club Care Package!

The Power of Mentoring Richmond

The Power of Mentoring – Feb 19 – 24th is an Opportunity to Share Toastmasters Like Never Before!

Have you ever thought “I wish I’d found Toastmasters earlier in my career.”? I have. I also have vivid memories of wishing for some kind person who actually cares about me, not my wallet, to take me under his/her wing and show me some best next steps in the right direction.

Mentoring is one of the two main foundations of the Toastmasters Program, and with Pathways around the corner, it’s about to become even MORE foundational for us all.

For Toastmasters Month, we have invited Professional Business and Leadership Consultant and Coach, Jim McLaughlin, a fellow Toastmaster from California, to tour seven corners of our District. He will be sharing “The Power of Mentoring” in an interactive, engaging, high value 90 minute roll-up-your-sleeves workshop for early and mid-career professionals. I believe what he has put together will be of value to ANY person who still occasionally wishes that far-seeing Fairy Godmother would show up some wise words and a magic wand.

Here’s a golden opportunity to share with the career-minded people in your life, some of the key value of what Toastmasters has to offer.

Tickets are available for pre-purchase on Eventbrite for $15/each, until midnight the day before each event. After that, they are available for $20 at the door. Consider attending for your own benefit AND to share Toastmasters with curious attendees at the break. Talk to your Division Director about how to help make this a successful event for your club and your community!

More details will be linked to this article as they come available. So far, here are the links to the events on eventbrite:

For more information on Jim McLaughlin, you can download his pdf bio here: Bio-JimMcLaughlin1p

But truly the best way to share this opportunity is through these words:

“If I was at the point in my career that you are at right now, and this opportunity came along to learn how to ask for the help I need in a way that sets my entire future up for success over and over again … I would be at this event, pen and paper in hand, eating up every word, exercise, and opportunity to network.”

Take advantage of this brilliant opportunity to share what our founder, Dr. Ralph Smedley, knew so many years ago:

Langley Toastmasters is first to 10 DCP this year! AND there’s more …

Greatness is happening in Division G! We have THREE clubs to celebrate!

Please help us congratulate Langley Toastmasters 2743, in Division G, Area 63! After attending Club Officer Training at the ACT event last Saturday, they received their final point to reach all 10 Distinguished Club Goals. With a healthy membership to date of 34 members, Langley Toastmasters is set to be Distinguished as soon as the April 1st renewals are counted at World Headquarters.

We have something else to celebrate. Out of 38 clubs on the planet, 2 clubs in District 21 keep reaching all 10 DCP points and having the membership levels to be Presidents Distinguished year after year. They’ve created a Club Culture of what Margaret Page calls “Documented Changes in People”. For the past 13 years of Mike Raffety’s tracking, here are the 38 clubs (click link). Please reach out and congratulate our own Division G, Area 62 clubs:

2651 Cloverdale Club
8742 Good News Toastmasters Club

Remember, our “Rising Tide” floats all boats. We’re here to help each other and keep Toastmasters sustainable in our wee corners of British Columbia. DO reach out not only to congratulate the clubs you see succeeding, but also to pick their brains on what’s possible for your club! We have much we can learn from each others’ successes! SHARE your brilliance! Help us all build an Amazing Adventure, and hopefully Share the Adventure with more potential future members.

What is this D21 Club Treasure Hunt Adventure?

By now your club has hopefully had some little care package arrive through your Area Director with a Treasure Chest, a Map, and a letter about both the Passport Program and the Treasure Hunt Adventure. You might have even received a few little cards with “bling” attached.

This program is designed by Club Retention Chair, Jeff Galenzoski, to help your members, both new and not-so-new, have a year of exceptional personal growth, and a lot of fun along the way. Celebrating each member’s contribution to the success of the team is one way to spark more enthusiasm for doing all those little things that make a big difference to your member experience.

Here’s how it works:

  1. The Map  – is your guide to where the “treasure” is. Explore the map! Go through it as a team. Display it at your meetings. Beside “Our Ship Be Named” write your club name and Tag Line. As you receive treasure, mark up the map with who brought in what! By June, this map should be marked up, starred, scribbled on with notes of encouragement, random art, and lots and lots of names!
  2. The Treasure Chest – is where you place the “bling” part of the rewards your team receives each month from the District. Have fun celebrating the bling! You could do Table Topics speeches by your contributors each month as they deposit their treasure in the team chest. DECORATE your team’s chest in unique ways! Make it a reflection of what your club is all about and the people you serve. At some point, we’ll be asking for Treasure Chest photos … more to come!
  3. The Treasure Most is automatically rewarded by our District team as we watch the amazing things you continue to do – education awards, new members, new member sponsors, DTM’s, District Training events and Above and Beyond Service “bling” will be delivered to your club after the close of each month. There are a few exceptions we need help with:
    1. Someone on your team chairs a Membership Building Campaign – please forward their name and a blurb about the campaign (any materials the team produced, a link to the facebook or webpage, a flyer, a handout your members were working from) ASAP to Club Retention Chair and Mastermind of this project, Jeff Galenzoski.
    2. Your team launches a PR Campaign – please forward a summary of the PR Campaign and any supporting evidence (social media, newspaper, flyer, etc) to District Director, Carol Carter
  4. Have fun with this! Share the adventure! We’re looking for stories, facebook posts and other feedback on how you are using the Treasure Hunt Adventure to help your entire team succeed this year. A rising tide floats all boats. We’d also love to see a little friendly club rivalry going on (get creative!).

More questions? Contact Jeff or myself any time through the “Connect With Us” page.

Wishing you and your team Grand Adventures and much fun ahead!

Talk Up Toastmasters this winter

You could WIN $150 for your club from District 21

Here’s an amazing membership building incentive for February and March! It combines two separate incentives into one great offer to help clubs grow their membership and Distinguished Club status:

1) Toastmasters International Talk Up Toastmasters Program, Feb. 1 – Mar.31

Toastmasters love to connect with others.  Let’s leverage that gift to grow our membership this winter. The annual Talk Up Toastmasters program encourages you to invite guests to any club meeting where they can learn about Toastmasters’ many benefits.

Add FIVE new members between February 1 and March 31, and your club receives a beautiful Talk up Toastmasters ribbon to display on your banner.

Please note: Applications and payments for new members who join during this time must be received at World Headquarters or online, no later than March 31. Qualifying clubs also earn 10% off their next club order (good for six months from the date of issue and not valid with any other offer).

2) BONUS District 21 Prize Draw for Qualifying Clubs

ALL District 21 Toastmaster Clubs that qualify for the Talk Up Toastmasters award will automatically be entered into a special District 21 prize draw. There will be FIVE winning clubs and each will receive $150 in coupons for the TI Store.

For the past two years, NINE clubs have qualified for the Talk Up Toastmasters award. This year we are looking for at least TWENTY clubs to enter the draw!

  • Is your club ready to take this 2-for-1 challenge?
  • Do you want to earn rewards for building your club membership?
  • Are you game to secure your DCP membership qualifying requirement before the next dues renewal deadline on March 31st?

RIGHT NOW is a great time to get busy and Talk Up Toastmasters!

Yours in Service,

Michael Bown, DTM
